The Mardi Himal Trek, though less renowned compared to other popular treks in Nepal, offers a mesmerizing journey through the Annapurna Conservation Area, with highlights including the majestic Mount Fishtail (Machhapuchhre) and the Annapurna South Range.
Day 1: Pokhara to Pitam Deurali
The adventure begins with a bus or car ride from Pokhara to Kande, the starting point of the trek. After checking permits at the Australian Camp, the trail passes through Pothana before reaching the first day’s stop at Pitam Deurali, situated at an altitude of 2100 meters. The path diverges at Pothana, with the left leading to Tolka-Landruk towards the Annapurna Base Camp, and the right heading towards Deurali.
Day 2: Pitam Deurali to Forest Camp and Rest Camp
After a hearty breakfast, the trek continues towards the Forest Camp and Rest Camp, located at 2750 meters. The journey is accompanied by the enchanting play of clouds and fog through dense green forests. The convenience of trekking in Nepal is evident with the availability of homestays and meals like Dal-Sabji-Rice priced at Nepalese Rupees 450-700. For those craving a protein boost, two hard-boiled eggs are available for Rs 180-230.
Day 3: Rest Camp to High Camp via Low Camp and Badaldanda
The third day involves a trek from the Rest Camp, passing through the oak forest to Low Camp and Badaldanda. Despite light rain, clouds, and fog, the trek continues up a steep path to reach the High Camp at 3550 meters. The anticipation of good weather grows as trekkers prepare for the final ascent.
Day 4: High Camp to Mardi Upper View Point
An early start at 3:50 am from High Camp, aided by the torches and headlights of fellow trekkers, leads to the Mardi Upper View Point at 4250 meters. The reward is a stunning sunrise, with the first light of the sun turning the horizon red and illuminating the Annapurna South and Hiunchuli ranges. Mount Fishtail stands majestically on the right, revered by the Nepali people as a deity, adding a spiritual touch to the trek.
