Explore Srimangal: A Complete Day Trip Itinerary from Dhaka

Srimangal Upazila of Moulvibazar district is well known as the tea capital of Bangladesh. Apart from the beautiful view of tea plantations on the hill slopes, Srimangal and its surroundings have many other attractions including Lauachhara National Park, Grand Sultan Tea Resort and Golf, Rubber Gardens, and Hamham Falls, Madhavpur Lake. A day trip to Srimangal is a popular destination for many as it is an easy day trip from Dhaka.

Plan A

If you want to visit Srimangal in one day by bus, you have to leave for Srimangal from Syedabad bus stand in Dhaka between 11:00 am and 12:00 pm. And if you want to go by train, it will be most convenient if you take the Upaban night train to Sylhet.

If you leave for Srimangal by bus or train at night, you will reach Srimangal in the morning. After having breakfast, you can go to Madhavpur Lake in the morning with CNG (CNG is an alternative vehicular fuel in Bangladesh) reserve or by local transport. The calm cool water of Madhavpur Lake and the beautiful scenery around will surely fill your mind with a strange calmness in the morning. On the way, you will see tea gardens on both sides.

After spending some time at Madhavpur Lake, come to Lauachhara National Park. You can do light trekking here along with seeing the biodiversity in the forest.

Return to town from Lauachhara National Park and have lunch at Pansi or Panch Bhai Hotel. Many types of delicious local food are available at affordable prices in these hotels.

After lunch, you can spend some time at Srimangal’s only Sitesh Babu Zoo. After that, you can have a chat at the tea research institute in the late afternoon while drinking seven colors of tea from the Neelkantha tea cabin.

If your tour is over by 5 pm, you can return to Dhaka by train from Srimangal. If it is not possible to come by train, you have to return to Dhaka by bus.

Plan B

If you are an adventure lover, you can visit Hamham Jharna on a Srimangal tour. Reach Srimangal early in the morning from Dhaka, have breakfast and reserve a CNG (CNG is an alternative vehicular fuel in Bangladesh) or Jeep to Hamham Jharna for the whole day. You can reach Kalabon Para in two hours by leaving early in the morning. Trekking to Hamham Jharna begins with a guide from Kalabon Para. If you want to see the true beauty of Ham Ham, you should go during the rainy season.

After seeing the Hamham Falls, you can return to the city, have lunch at Panch Bhai Restaurant or Pansi Restaurant, and leave for Madhavpur Lake in the afternoon. After seeing the beauty of the lake and the tea garden, go to Nilakantha Kuthir to drink seven colors of tea. At the end of the trip, start your journey to Dhaka by bus or train.

 

How to go to Srimangal from Dhaka

From Dhaka to Srimangal by train, you can choose Upaban, Jayantika, Parabat, or Kalni Express train from Kamalapur or Biman Port railway station as your travel companion. The train fare is 240 taka to 552 taka per person depending on the class. It takes five to five and a half hours to travel by train.

From Dhaka to Srimangal by bus, Hanif Enterprise, Shyamoli Paribahan, Sylhet Express, Ena, etc. non-AC buses are available from Fakirapool or Syedabad for a fare of Tk 470 to Tk 600. It takes about 4 hours to go by bus.

CNG Reserve – Tk 2000 (for the whole day)

If you want to eat at a cheap price, choose Pansi Restaurant or Panch Bhai Restaurant Hotel.

Before taking CNG reserve, tell in advance about where you are going.

Bargain to reserve CNG.

Be careful of the leeches that go hum hum.
